[450] Mobile loop mounting questions

Getting ready to put the loop back on the car. I know that many of you  
have used 3/8 x 24 threaded rod as the mast. What did you sleeve it  
with to stiffen it up a bit.

I realized that the 5 foot hustler mast, mounted on the roof of the  
car is just too tall and hits all kinds of low branches and in some  
instances is even too tall for low underpasses.

Suggestions would be appreciated.
