You have to understand the context George.  I monitor it, when in the 
shack, so as to better coordinate with others what is happening on the 
freq.
I do not transmit through it.
It is essentially nothing more than a way for someone (like you) to 
remotely operate John's station (on 450 simplex) on the hill to work all 
the locals.
You in NH, Noel in PA, etc. would be examples.  There are other uses of 
course, like when Shawn called in on his cell from the plane when returning
