[450] NICE microphone...cheap too!

You're right. I just checked . It's the shure 444D that I have. Got the numbers crossed with the 55S ( the Elvis Presley postage stamp mic). My 444D is plastic, un-amped. Looks just like the SBE, but very different. I'd love to use the 444D/Sily again . Maybe a retirement project for the L.I. shack. No room for it in this one. I have a half working Sily for parts and the  zapped one. Make a Frankentronix out of it. Wish I had one of Larrys' old ones. The silys always sounded astonishing to my ears.

Shure 555 was a vintage broadcast style, maybe you mean 444?  That was more popular on CBs.....but it was plastic.....I don't know all the Shure models, but I do know they made a metal one in the same case as a Turner plus 2 which looks a lot like this, but the SBE has a squarer look.

The only two mics I know of in this case were the SBE (as sent) or the Belcom.

These are heavy cast metal with a thick black vinyl-ish wrinkle finish.  I can think of no mike I like better.

Hmmm. Looks just like my old Shure555 which I got with my Siltronix 1011 (did Larrys' ears just perk up). Bob, do you know if same manufacturer?  Sounded great on the Sily before the lightning strike.
Pipe

Despite the heckling,I'll stand by all I said.

Besides, no reason why you can't drink gin while sounding great on your micropohone...

Having owned one, I disagree.
The microphone is probably the heaviest microphone
out there for it's size, perfect shielding, basic
straight forward amplification, smooth switching (and
always cleanable because it has open contacts) and
sounds decent on almost anything......not to mention
good looking.
Amateur radio mikes (sm-8, mc-60, etc.)are generally
crappier build and demand generally two to three
times the price of this mike including it's
shipping....and that is BEFORE shipping....
