I'd like 6 meters, was thinking about putting up a loop for the band when I get it, my space is limited, the 706 sounds fine. I'll see when the time comes, because I have to decide whether to get a 2M9SSB & might get a complaint from the landlord that its to big or another 2m7 for stacking at this point it looks like it'll have to be side by side or I won't have any room for the 70cm beam. I'll see when the time comes. Certainly enjoying the 736r got up early just to hear the 205 SSB morning group, heard a few signals, that was nice to hear again, a pre-amp will certainly help things. Slowly but surely, it'll come together.

On Tue, Feb 14, 2017 at 3:05 PM, William Knapp / WA1WK <wa1wk@wa1wk.com> wrote:

You can find some Icom 706 (original) that have 160-6 meters for around 400 bux. If you don't care about 6M, look around for a Kenwood 850, or even an older 940. Both totally solid radios.
Perfect, no demolition needed, I'll have to swap around alot of stuff but
it'll fit just fine. I have 20+ inches wide on the desk and 9 inches top to
& depth is not an issue. If this radio didn't have the reviews it has, I've
would've gotten the Y847 which is still a goal. Looks like I didn't learn
from the $500 disaster that was the FT100D yuck ! although I miss HF for
now. It'll take a little time, but things will get done. One day at a time.
Thanks !
