This is the doohickey....I think I am going to use your idea when I re-do
the stack in the spring. This should work fine, I can just take off the
side bracket meant for the support pipe and use it just as a guy
attachment. In theory you could even mount it higher up on the mast because
it has ball bearings and the mast will rotate inside it, but then in my
application that wont work because the antennas would hit the guy wires,
LOL. I can just mount it right under the rotor.  Even if I can only get two
of the three guys wires, and even if they are not that strong, it should be
better than nothing in a storm. Thanks for the idea! I've had this thing
sitting in a drawer for like 14 years. Can't even remember where I got it.
It's made by Crown Rotator, who I'm sure are long out of business.
