When in doubt, shut off your router or see if there any odd ports being used, block them.

Pretty cool technology.

That is the truth. I have read about this. I think Samsung is one of the leaders in this field. There has been such an outcry I believe that one can turn off delivery of information to the server (if you can believe that). The easy answer is don’t buy modern technology. The other solution is not to network any appliance.

However laptops and tablets have had cameras and microphones for a long time. Cameras and mics can be turned on w/o your knowledge. Same applies to cell phones. Something to think about… Unless you remove the battery, is your cellphone ever completely turned off? If it is turned off, what functionality remains?

Also, have a look at subliminal stimulation and its use in movie theaters. Consider how subliminal stimulation might be used today and to what end.

People should go read about the new smart TVs that are voice-activated that are listening 24/7 even while turned off, converting all heard spoken words to text, snd shipping it off to be analyzed by the manufacturer for "analysis"!!

I shit thee not! Schneier wrote about it recently.

Now, that's 1984 style stuff....
