[450] Any using or trying DMR?

David,
I have started work on building a code plug. What are the two closest repeaters to you? I have started with AG2K in Bridgeport, but don’t know if you receive it. You can tune to the repeater on an analog receiver and listen to the “noise” and let me know the signal strength. AG2K is 442.200 MHz.
I am also going to try to generate a contact list. This puts call signs on the screen rather than registration numbers. I need to add to my own anyway.
I would like to put in two repeaters so you can see the structure and add your own. It takes time, but it is well worth the effort. All this is good practice for me!

ok here is the rdt file. I set up public service on one side amateur on the other. I downloaded a codeplug for the ontario region for a tryout, installed smoothly. So use to analog I would've understood a csv file heh. alright got it now. Feel free to add any tri-state area digital machines I missed. I'll be using the base antenna on occasions to. Dont know how accessible further repeaters might be on digital, but if its anything like nextel direct without a repeater then coverage will be very interesting.
Thanks in advance.

David,
Use the software to “read” the radio. It will be saved as *.rdt. I will take a look at it and try to populate it with data for one or two repeaters and a couple of analog repeaters. The best way is to look at already programmed repeaters.
Another alternative is for me to send you screen shots of the program pages. A code plug is the data for a programmed radio, a carryover from Motorola speak. There is one item in the program that is described by two different names and that adds to the difficulty. I am a beginner, but have successfully added repeaters and analog FM repeaters/simplex frequencies. The key is to have one or two repeaters programmed so you can see the relationship between all parameters. I have not found a good explanation anywhere.
The CTARES stuff is written for Connect Systems radio. It is interesting that both radios use the same programming software. There is a converter in Python, but I have no idea how well it works. If you want to try it, I can send you the link if you want to try it.
There is a bit of a learning curve with this. I thought it good brain exercise.

I tried the file you sent and got an error that says "The Model is wrong !" ? Not wanting to read pages and pages just to find out what a codeplug is, which I googled and got no straight answer, let me know what it is and I'll send gladly email it, I feel like a 85 year old with alzheimers trying to figure this out, heh.

Shawn,
I am able to use a repeater 40 plus miles away using an HT/rubber ducky from inside the house. I put up a 3 el beam for about a 17 dBm gain. It is another nice toy for the toy box! It is nice to have a lack of noise and decent audio.

I got it working on windows 10. I don't see where to set ts or tg on the md-380 software, only the splits, color code, repeater slot. if you know of a good tutorial on this rigs programming,, let me know. I bought a 3 foot sma to female UHF 259 Cable from amazon, I'll try it out once I get this done, I programmed 2 frequencies but haven't heard squat, guess im doing it wrong.

David,
I am using DMR and have the MD 380.
I do not recall having to use a driver and don’t think one is needed as there is no chip in the cable and if I remember correctly, the programming software will recognize the radio. You have a VG DMR system in CT. I believe I saw a code plug for CT somewhere. BTW, I am using Win 10. Have had no problems except for learning to write code plugs. Have you registered with the system?
I will get the URL for a website that has a good intro and send it to you.
I am currently using a repeater that is about 45 miles away and can get in using the stock rubber ducky from inside the house. I routinely use a three element beam that provides about 17 dBm gain. That way packet loss is minimized.
If I can be of further help, let me know. We can make contact on NE Wide and sw3itch to TAC310 once we make contact when you get set up

I purchased an MD 380 and having issues with it being recognized after installing the right driver. On windows 10.
