John,
Don’t step down from the soapbox. What we need for the next two years is reasoned, rational and respectful discourse. Drop the name calling and demonizing of those who disagree with us. Name calling and demonization do little to further real dialog. One does not have to have an academic degree to be capable of rational, respectful dialog either.
I think it of interest to go back to sixteenth century thinkers. I would suggest a read of “The Politics of Obedience The Discourse of Voluntary Servitude”, Etienne De La Boetie. It is less than thirty pages and one can find an English translation easily. I believe it can be found on line for free as it is long out of print. It does explain why politics in America today works the way it does. A good follow up would be to at least skim Machiavelli’s “The Prince”. To put an “American” perspective on things, read some of the writings of Thomas Paine. For a European view on America see de Tocqueville’s “Democracy in America”.
Something to think about…is our hobby a right or a privilege? How easily could our hobby be restricted/eliminated by government? During WWII, Italians and Germans had radios (even receivers) confiscated. If you think this could not happen today, what do you think of the IRS today? Is it a totally benign Federal Agency or a political tool?
George

And yet again politics fails us....
Geographically...most of the state wanted Mr. Foley....but thanks to Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven (Big surprise) the dems win yet again....
