At long last, I have a few inside pics of the roof tower install for those of you who have wondered how it was done.

Here is the basic structure used on all three presently installed towers to support them as well as reinforce the roof itself.

The right side here is the connection point for the two legs of the tripod on one side of the roof peak. Note the 2x8 lag screwed into/across six rafters as well as bolted to the tower legs via the threaded rod.

The left side is the connection point for the single leg of the tripod on the other side of the peak, On this side the 2x8 spans four rafters and is lag screwed to the rafters and bolted to the tripod with threaded rod.

Close up of the single leg side shows the 2x4s parallel to the rafters...a 2x8 is screwed down into the 2x4s to create a box effect, then the assembly is pushed up flush to the roof sheeting. This sandwiches the sheeting and the shingles between the top 2x8 and the leg bracket, while the assembly is sandwiched between the lower 2x8 and the roof. The 2x4s are bolted through the rafters with 3/8 bolts, lockwashers, and fender washers, and the entire thing is bolted all sides to the threaded rods with lockwashers, fender washers and nuts.

Here is a close up of how the threaded rods are bolted both sides of the assembly, as well as how the 2x4s are sandwiched.

And finally, here is a fourth structure over the garage, waiting for the fourth tripod to be bolted to it.

I hope this makes it a bit clearer as to how this was all done for those of you who have asked as well as those of you considering doing this yourself.

Enjoy!!
