Sounds like an interesting mic George, especially for the price. $24...dirt cheap. I think the Nady sp-1 may be a little less, but if it went toe to toe with the PR40, it's a deal.
Most dynamic type "studio" mics will give us more freq. response than our radios can pass, but some are designed with a rise at certain frequencies to give them more appealing sound. My two favorites are the Beringer b-1 electret condenser....has a midrange rise that seems best suited to me on the Jupiter....$99 (needs phantom power), and an EV 410 ? , I think, designed for female singers. It gets the best reports on the 2950.
A little pricy, but I found a good one a few years back on Epay for cheap.

Group,
Heard a very interesting comparison between a Heil PR40 and Audio Technica ATR 30 on 75 M. I used to do sound/engineering for a C&W band (part time) and still do sound for church. I was favorably impressed by the ATR 30. IMHO, the PR40 is not worth the money for amateur radio service. ATR 30 stands with the best. I have one on order. It has an XLR connector, so there is a bit of work to interface it with the radio(s). I will also use it w/o EQ. The ATR 30 is only $24! If you want to experiment with audio, this is certainly an interesting mic to try. It should really do well with some of the modern radios. If I had the opportunity, it would be interesting to compare it to a Shure SM 57 (58?). I can't rember which was the standard vocal mic. I suspect it would hold its own.

Dave, I came across this on the Heil website and thought you might find it interesting.
