This sounds a little like the scene from "Animal House"  where they're smoking pot and saying our universe could be but one atom in the fingernail of some other larger being...

It could be that the world doesn't really exist, we are all enhanced game pieces on a gameboard and the moon in question is really just a dim light in some kids room over a midnight game with his brother that they are attempting to hide from their parents.....
