Don't want to split hairs about it, but I found my galvanized fence rail and masting are slighly different.  The swedged ends don't mate with a rail/mast combo. The rails will do the same job as the masts for most uhf/vhf apps and at 1/2 the price though. In the past they have failed me where the masts held (2, swedged together, and really stressed). I think I remember my rails being 10' 5". I like the interior/exterior galvanizing on the rails for rustproofing.  On masts that are going to be long term installations, I spray a mix of HEAVY oil like Viscous500 and kerosene inside, the kerosene acts as the vehicle for the oil, evaporates and leaves a near lifetime coating of rustproofing behind.....sometimes I get too anal about things.

Charlie, the fence post from Home Depot is  EXACTLY  the same stuff as the masting at Radio Shack.  The fence posting is about  $9.58 for a 10 ft. length, while the same length of the shack stuff is a whopping  $25.00.

What are you using for masting. I like the rotator on it too, does it help to be able to turn it. I know there is a low spot on the lobe.Charlie..N1MUQ getting mine soon
